This policy explains what information Random Piano Chords (“the site”, “we”) collects when you use randompianochords.com, and your choices about it. The site is a free, browser-based music-practice tool. We keep data collection to the minimum.
Information you provide. If you email us via the feedback link, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to read and reply.
Analytics data (only with your consent). If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects standard, aggregated usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location (country/region, derived from a truncated IP address), device and browser type, referring site, and interactions. This helps us understand how the tool is used and improve it. IP addresses are anonymised.
Local storage. The site stores your practice settings and your cookie preference in your browser’s local storage. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. We do not use any cookies until you choose “Accept” on the consent banner. If you accept, Google Analytics sets the following:
| Cookie | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes anonymous users (Google Analytics) | Up to 2 years |
| _ga_<id> | Maintains analytics session state (Google Analytics 4) | Up to 2 years |
If you select “Decline”, none of these are set. We remember your choice in local storage so we don’t ask again. To change your mind, clear this site’s data in your browser and reload — the banner will reappear.
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, our legal basis for analytics is your consent, which you give through the banner and can withdraw at any time as described above. You can also disable analytics globally with Google’s opt-out browser add-on, or block cookies in your browser settings.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority. Because analytics data is anonymised and we hold no accounts, we usually cannot identify an individual visitor — but if you’ve emailed us, you can ask us to delete that correspondence.
Analytics is provided by Google as a data processor. Google may process data on servers outside your country. See Google’s Privacy Policy and data-processing terms for details. The site itself is served as static files by our hosting provider, which may log basic request data (such as IP address) for security and reliability, as is standard for any website.
Aggregated analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics configuration (by default up to 14 months) and then deleted or further aggregated. Feedback emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your message.
The site is suitable for all ages and is not directed at children specifically; we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this policy as the site evolves; the “last updated” date above will change. For any privacy question, contact randompianochords@gmail.com.
